Zurich links up with AgriKids to promote farm safety to children across Ireland

3 year agreement to include nationwide schools and events roadshow

24 children lost their lives in farm accidents over past 10 years

July, 2017 – Zurich Insurance announces its support for AgriKids and the rollout of a national campaign aimed at promoting farm safety amongst children, and ultimately reduce the number of accidents suffered on Irish farms. Over the next three years, AgriKids supported by Zurich will carry out a nationwide school roadshow, where AgriKids founder Alma Jordan will facilitate tailored workshops with an initial target of 30 schools before the end of the year.

The Zurich supported campaign will be officially launched at the upcoming Tullamore Show, where Zurich and AgriKids will host free farm safety tutorials while revealing new campaign merchandise. Continuing with the same format at this year’s Ploughing Championships, the link up will be supported by a strong social media awareness campaign led by Zurich’s in-house digital team.

Commenting on the link up, Graham Minogue, Head of Agri & Broker Partnerships, Zurich Insurance said, “We are very passionate about contributing positively to Ireland’s farming community and farm safety is something that matters hugely to the 140,000 farm families across the country. Through this exciting link up with AgriKids and their inspiring founder Alma, we are hoping to educate the next generation of young farmers, empowering them as the best farm safety ambassadors.”

Alma Jordan, Founder of AgriKids added, "I am delighted to have the support of Zurich as I look to step up my efforts in reducing the rate of farm accidents in Ireland. I have been working hard on proactively addressing attitudes to farm safety by engaging and educating our children, empowering them to be our farm safety ambassadors. My ultimate ambition is to shift farm families from being merely aware of the dangers, to being instinctively safe the moment they set foot on their farms.”

24 children have died over the past 10 years as a result of farm related accidents, with just under half (42 percent) of those caused by incidents involving machinery.

AgriKids is a farm safety educational platform, founded in 2015 following Ireland’s worst year on record for farm accidents where 30 people died, of which 5 were children. Using creative and interactive apps, popular books and other learning materials, AgriKids has become a leading voice in promoting farm safety in Ireland.
